Et voi uskoa, mitä juuri tapahtui Etelä-Koreassa! Parlamentti kumoaa presidentin hätätila-dekreetin – mikä hullunmylly!

Etelä-Korean presidentti Yoon Suk Yeol teki äkillisen ja yllättävän päätöksen tiistaina, kun hän julisti "hätätilan armeijavaltion" televisioidussa puheessaan, jossa hän syytti oppositiota hallituksen lamaantumisesta. Tämä ilmeinen vallan osoitus herätti voimakasta närkästystä niin oppositiossa kuin osassa hallituspuolueestakin, mikä sai monet kysymään, onko demokratia todella uhattuna. Kun Yoon vaati armeijan valtaavan otteen kansasta, monet kansalaiset alkoivat kokoontua protestoimaan mieltään ja vaatimaan normaalin demokratian palauttamista.

Kuitenkin vain muutamia tunteja myöhemmin tapahtui käänne, kun Etelä-Korean parlamentti äänesti yksimielisesti päätöksen hylätä presidentin julistus. Tämä oli kuin suuri nyrjäys tuolilla, jonka voi nähdä useissa suomalaisissa komedioissa. Laajasti huomioitu äänestys antoi voimaa meille kaikille, kun se muistutti, että kansan ääni on vahvempi kuin yksilön valta. Presidentti Yoonin oli pakko vetäytyä päätöksestään, kun tämä tiukka ja yllättävä poliittinen tilanne alkoi purkautua kansalaisten voimalla.

Mielenkiintoista on, että vastaavanlaista tilannetta on nähty aiemminkin Etelä-Koreassa. Maassa on ollut useita aikoja, jolloin armeija on ottanut vallan poliittisten kriisien myötä, mutta parlamentin yksimielinen päätös muistuttaa meitä jälleen kerran demokraattisten arvojen tärkeydestä. Nyt monet spekuloivat, mitä seuraavaksi tapahtuu ja onko Yoonin valta todella uhattuna vai onko tämä pelkkä kupla. Lomatuulen vuoksi on myös otettava huomioon, että tämä tilanne vaikuttaa suhteisiin naapurimaahan, Pohjois-Koreaan.

Tiesitkö, että Etelä-Korea on yksi maailman kehittyneimmistä demokratioista? Kuitenkin vain 30 vuotta sitten se oli erittäin autoritaarinen, joten tämä uusi käänne asiassa tuo esiin vakavia kysymyksiä maan tulevaisuudesta. Historian oppina voidaan sanoa, että vähemmistöhallituksen yritykset tukahduttaa opposition on yleensä johtanut ihmisten aktivismiin ja mielenosoituksiin – ehkä Etelä-Korea on jälleen kerran historian käännekohdassa!
