Talvi on taas täällä, ja se tuo mukanaan myös kourallisen sään kepposia! Oregoniin on annettu talvivaroitus, jossa varoitetaan lumimyrskyistä vuoristoteillä ja sään odotetaan vaikuttavan myös merenrannan vuoristossa. Satakunta senttiä lunta – mitä muuta voimme kaivata tähän vuodenaikaan? Paikalliset ovat tottuneet talven haasteisiin, mutta nyt näyttää olevan erityinen tilanne.
Myös Skotlannissa on ilmoitettu lumisateista, jotka alkavat sunnuntai-iltapäivänä ja jatkuvat pitkälle maanantaihin. Erityisesti Pohjois-Englannissa ja Pohjois-Walesissa valmistautuvat ihmiset talven ensimmäiseen makuun. Met Office on julkaissut useita kelivaroituksia, joten on aika kaivaa esiin ne talvikengät!
Yhdysvalloissakin kelivaroitukset ovat korkealla. Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming ja Montana kärsivät talvimyrskyistä, ja varoitukset kehoittavat ihmisiä pysymään poissa vaarallisilta teiltä. Hirmumyrsky tuo mukanaan 6-12 tuumaa (15-30 cm) lunta, ja tuulen voimakkuus voi nousta jopa 45 mailiin tunnissa. Se on aika säilyttää lämmin takki ja suojautua sään yllätysten varalta!
Kun äärimmäiset säänilmiöt iskevät, muistamme myös, että lumisateet voivat olla hauskoja! Esimerkiksi lyhyen matkan päässä olevan Glasgow'n asukkaat valmistauduvat arktiseen laukaukseen, ja jokaisella lumisateella on mahdollisuus taipuessaan muuntua epätoivottavasta haasteesta mukavaksi talvielämykseksi. Talvi voi olla ihmeellinen vuodenaika, jos siihen vain osaa suhtautua oikealla asenteella!
Pohjois-Englantiin on määrä tulla jopa 20 senttiä lunta, ja meriveden pinnat ovat enemmän kuin talvelle tyypillisiä. Jäänmurtajat ja sääennustajat eivät ole koskaan olleet näin kiireisiä, ja talven voima hosuu eri puolilla maailmaa. Mielessämme kulkee kysymys: Oletko valmis talven lumisateisiin?
