Diwali, tunnettu myös "valojen juhlan" nimellä, on yksi Intian tärkeimmistä ja rakastetuimmista juhlista, jota vietetään yleensä lokakuun lopussa tai marraskuun alussa. Tämä viiden päivän festivaali juhlistaa valon voittoa pimeästä ja hyvän voittoa pahuudesta. Diwali on erityisen merkityksellinen hinduille, mutta juhlaa vietetään laajasti myös muiden uskontoiden parissa ympäri maailmaa. Tänä vuonna Diwali tuo mukanaan myös uuden käänteen, sillä se juhlistaa kahta eri päivämäärää; jokaisen juhlan taustalla on omia perinteitä ja käytäntöjä.

Mielenkiintoinen fakta Diwali-juhlan ympärillä on, että se ei ole vain yksittäinen tapahtuma, vaan se kestää useita päiviä, jokaiselle päivälle on oma erityinen merkityksensä. Alkuperäinen syy Diwalin juhlintaan juontaa juurensa tarinoihin Ramasta ja Sitasta – se symboloi heidän voittoaan demonikuningas Ravannaa vastaan. Toinen kiinnostava seikka on se, että Diwalin aikana yli miljardi ihmistä ympäri maailmaa valaisee kotinsa kynttilöillä ja lampuilla, tehden tästä festivaalista todella ainutlaatuisen ja unohtumattoman.
