Manchester United valloitti Old Traffordin tiistai-iltana, kun joukkue antoi Barnsleylle kyytiä Carabao Cupin ottelussa. Lopputulos oli vakuuttava 7-0, ja manageri Erik ten Hag kehui esitystä "täydelliseksi yöksi". Manchester Unitedin tähtihyökkääjät Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho ja Christian Eriksen loistivat kentällä, kukin maalaamalla kaksi osumaa ottelussa.

Ottelun alusta alkaen oli selvää, että Manchester United oli päättänyt tehdä Barnsleystä kunnon esimerkin siitä, mitä tarkoittaa pelaaminen Old Traffordilla. Ensimmäinen puoliaika oli kuin unta; United hallitsi kenttää ja sai luotua lukemattomia maalipaikkoja Barnsleyn puolustukseen. Toisella puoliajalla Manchester United jatkoi samaa vauhtia. Erityisesti Rashford ja Garnacho olivat kuin veloita, heidän nopeutensa ja taitonsa oli Barnsleylle liikaa. Eriksen täytti pelin sen kauniilla syötöillä ja yllättäville liikkeillä, joka teki Unitedin pelaamisesta nautinnollista katsottavaa. Lopulta peli päättyi lukemiin 7-0, ja United varmisti paikkansa neljännelle kierrokselle.

Vaikka Barnsley oli kolmannen divisioonan joukkue, tämä voitto ei ollut vain tilastollinen, vaan se antoi Unitedille tarvittavaa luottamusta tulevia haasteita varten. Ten Hagin tarvitsemat kolme pistettä ja muutama maali olivat tärkeitä, kun joukkue kaipasi positiivista virettä kauden keskellä.
