Bangladeshin turvallisuusvoimat ovat ampuneet luoteja ja äänigranaatteja mielenosoittajia vastaan, samalla kun maassa on koettu kuolemaan johtaneita yhteenottoja hallituksen työpaikkojen jaosta. Opiskelijat ovat nousseet vastarintaan hallintoa vastaan, ja tilanne on kärjistynyt voimakkaaksi. Vaikka julkisia mielenosoituksia on kielletty, opiskelijat ovat palanneet Dhakan kaduille osoittamaan mieltään. Bangladeshin viranomaiset ovat ryhtyneet kovaotteisiin toimiin vastustaessaan protesteja, joissa useita ihmisiä on menettänyt henkensä. Protestit opiskelijoiden työpaikkakiintiöitä vastaan ovat eskaloituneet maan pahimmiksi levottomuuksiksi vuosiin.
