Buffalo Sabres on tehnyt kaupat Washington Capitalsin kanssa ja hankkinut hyökkääjä Beck Malenstynin vaihtokaupassa toisen kierroksen varausvuorolla (43. varausvuoro) vuoden 2024 NHL Draftiin. Malenstyn, joka varattiin Washingtonin toimesta viidennellä kierroksella (v. 2016 NHL Draft), on esiintynyt 105 runkosarjaottelussa tehden yhteensä 24 pistettä (kahdeksan maalia, 16 syöttöä). Kaupassa Capitals saa vastineeksi toisen kierroksen varausvuoron, jonka avulla he voivat vahvistaa joukkuettaan tulevaisuutta ajatellen.
Samana päivänä Buffalo Sabres ilmoitti myös ostavansa ulos veteraanihyökkääjä Jeff Skinnerin sopimuksen, jossa on jäljellä vielä kolme vuotta. Skinnerin kahdeksan vuoden ja 72 miljoonan dollarin sopimus päätetään lopettaa ennenaikaisesti. Tämä liike antaa Skinnerille mahdollisuuden siirtyä vapaaksi agentiksi ja etsiä uusia haasteita urallaan.
