Ilmastoaktivistiryhmä Just Stop Oil järjesti provokaation, maalaten Stonehengen oranssiksi päivää ennen kesäpäivänseisausta, jolloin odotettiin tuhansien ihmisten saapuvan paikalle. Vaikka tapahtuma herätti laajaa närkästystä, englantilaisen Heritage-päällikkö Dr. Nick Merriman iloitsi, ettei näkyvää vahinkoa tapahtunut. Poliisi pidätti kaksi miestä protestin jälkeen, mutta heidät on sittemmin vapautettu odottamaan lisätutkimuksia.

Stonehenge on yksi Britannian tunnetuimmista esihistoriallisista rakennelmista, ja sen maalaaminen ilmastoaktivistien toimesta herätti laajalti keskustelua. Just Stop Oil -ryhmä on aiemmin kohdistanut toimintansa eri kulttuurikohteisiin, mutta Stonehengen tapaus nosti esille kysymyksiä ympäristöaktivismin rajoista ja menetelmistä. Vaikka kullanvärinen oranssi maali saatiin nopeasti poistettua, teko jätti jälkensä Britannian kenties ikonisimpaan muinaisjäännökseen.

Historiallisesti merkittävät monumentit, kuten Stonehenge, ovat olleet alttiina erilaisille aktivistiryhmille, jotka pyrkivät herättämään keskustelua ympäristöasioista. Stonehengen tapauksen jälkeen on korostunut tarve suojella kulttuuriperintöämme ja löytää tasapainoilun keinoja aktivismin ja kulttuurin välillä.
