Singapore on saamassa valtavan taloudellisen potkun, kun Amazon ilmoitti suunnitelmistaan sijoittaa 9 miljardia dollaria kaupunkivaltioon pilvipalveluiden laajentamiseksi. Amazon Web Services (AWS) aikoo kasvattaa cloud-infrastruktuuriaan maailmanlaajuisesti, kilpaillen samalla Microsoftin vastaaviin investointeihin mm. Malesiassa, Thaimaassa ja Indonesiassa. Uuden lainsäädännön myötä Singaporessa tullaan säätämään asetuksia vaihtoehtoisten ruokatuotteiden säätelyn osalta, kun Singaporen Elintarvikevirasto ja Kestävän kehityksen ja ympäristön ministeriö julkaisivat luonnoksen ruokaturvallisuus- ja -turvallisuuslaista. Amazon aikoo viedä investointejaan vielä pidemmälle, sillä se ilmoitti sijoittavansa myös yli 23 miljardia Singaporen dollaria vuoteen 2028 mennessä. Tulevaisuudessa AWS keskittyy kasvattamaan pilvirakenteitaan ja -palveluitaan kaupungissa, mikä voi luoda uusia mahdollisuuksia paikalliselle taloudelle ja teknologia-alalle.
