FI High School Ski Teams Battle Unpredictable Weather and Excel in Competitions

Portland's Eastside High Schools Ski Team, like many others, struggled with an unpredictable ski season due to fluctuating snow conditions. From too little snow to too much, the team faced canceled trips and challenging training conditions. Despite these setbacks, their resilience and determination shone through. Meanwhile, the Summit Middle School Alpine ski team showcased their strength in a series of races at Ski Cooper and Loveland Ski Area, demonstrating superb skiing skills early in the season. Rochester Alpine ski teams, including skiers from various communities, boasted exceptional contenders with high hopes of qualifying for state competitions. The JM team, comprising skiers from Lourdes and neighboring areas, presented a formidable lineup for the competitions ahead. On the other hand, Wilton High School athletes, captured by Alex K. during “Warrior Sports Week on GMW,” participated actively in ski events and pool activities, reflecting a vibrant sports culture within the school. In a thrilling highlight, Sammy Smith of the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team clinched a remarkable silver medal at the 2024 FIS Ski Junior World Championships, marking a stellar start to the championship for the talented skier.
